Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday invites us to embrace humility, recognize our shared imperfection, and begin Lent with gratitude for Christ’s redeeming love, remembering that we are mortal and in need of grace.

Reflection Questions:

1. How does the reminder that “we are dust and to dust we shall return” shape your perspective on humility and self-righteousness during Lent?

2. Why do you think Jesus cautions against practicing piety for show, and how can we apply this teaching in our daily lives?

3. What does it mean to enter Lent “not hopeless,” and how does the promise of Easter influence your approach to this season?

4. How can acknowledging our need for redemption lead us to deeper gratitude and praise?

Prayer: Gracious God, as we received the ashes and remember our mortality, humble our hearts and remind us that we are dust, redeemed only by your boundless grace. Help us to lay aside self-righteousness and judgment, and instead embrace the humility and compassion shown by Christ. Guide us through this Lenten season to reflect, repent, and trust in your redeeming love, knowing that through Jesus we are forgiven and made new. Grant us gratitude for your mercy, and empower us to share your love with others, until we celebrate the victory of Easter. Amen.
