7th Sunday after Pentecost - HymnFest 2026

This weeks Homily was written to preface our Sermon Hymn, "Testify to Love." Drawing on the history of Avalon’s song “Testify to Love,” Pastor Amanda's reflection challenges Christians to proclaim a gospel of God’s inclusive and unconditional love rather than one that excludes people for who they are.

Reflection Questions

1. What does it mean to “testify to love” in your daily life?

2. Have you ever witnessed or experienced exclusion within a faith community? How did it affect you?

3. What is the “Good News” that Jesus calls us to share according to Matthew 24:14?

4. How can our actions either support or contradict the message of God’s grace?

5. What is one practical way you can testify to God’s love and grace this week?

Prayer:

Loving God, through Jesus Christ you have revealed a love that knows no boundaries and a grace that is given freely to all. Open our hearts to welcome as you welcome, to love as you love, and to testify to the good news that every person is your beloved child. Help us to be a church that reflects your mercy, breaks down walls of exclusion, and proclaims your gospel with courage and compassion. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
